J.R. Walker, TCRG

Owner & Director

J.R. Walker is the owner and director of the Walker Academy of Irish Dance. He started dancing at the late age of 13 and quickly moved through the ranks in competition to achieve open champion level. J.R. danced for the Broesler School of Irish Dance under the direction of Kevin Broesler, ADCRG and Eileen Paulson, TCRG where he was successful in team and solo competitions, qualifying to compete at the World Irish Dancing Championships. 

In 2016, J.R. passed the rigorous TCRG exam to become a certified and vetted Irish dance teacher with the world's most distinguished Irish dance organization, An Coimisiun Le Rinci Gaelacha (CLRG). J.R. has since taught and choreographed for students who have placed at many competitions at the regional, national, and international level. 

In addition to his TCRG, J.R. holds a bachelor's degree in History and a master's degree in Social Studies Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. 

Lisa Hunt-Burgess, TMRF

Lisa began studying Irish dance with An Cor Rud in 1997 and retired from Open Championship level after her participation in the 2004 and 2005 North American Championships and the World Championships in Belfast and Ennis. During her active dancing years, she participated in the Boston College program, Gaelic Roots, for six summers. She has been lucky enough to perform onstage with the Eileen Ivers Band, the Chieftains, and Cherish the Ladies, as well as perform in the International Tattoo. 

Lisa holds a TMRF certification, issued by CLRG, and holds a bachelor's degree in English and minor in Art from the University of Virginia.


Kelly Ann Gould

Kelly has been dancing since the age of 8 and and worked diligently through the competition circuit to achieve open champion level. Over the years, Kelly has achieved top 5 in the southern region, top 20 in the nation, and top 40 in the world.

Kelly is currently an assistant teacher at Walker Academy and is working towards earning her TCRG certification. She is a 2018 graduate of the Governor's School of the Arts where she majored in dance and is currently studying exercise science at Old Dominion University.
